#1 Facility Overhaul - Thiru Primary
Project Completion Report
Introduction
Thiru Primary School is a public primary school located in Marmanet Ward, Laikipia County, Kenya. Established in 1978, the school serves approximately 700 students aged 6 to 15 years. As a rural institution, Thiru Primary School has faced significant challenges due to overstretched facilities, necessitating urgent intervention.
Project Justification Thiru Primary School was selected as a beneficiary of the TFalls Foundation Inc. due to critical infrastructure deficiencies that hindered effective learning and a conducive school environment. A thorough needs assessment identified the following pressing issues:
Old and dilapidated classrooms requiring urgent repairs.
Overcrowded classrooms, creating an unconducive learning environment.
Poor sanitation due to inadequate washrooms and lack of handwashing facilities.
A deteriorating administration block that was unsafe and unsuitable for school operations.
Many pupils lacked proper school uniforms due to financial constraints.
The absence of a reliable source of clean drinking and washing water.
Project Implementation
Following the needs assessment, TFalls Foundation Inc. launched infrastructure improvement projects on December 13, 2019. The project aimed at addressing the most urgent needs to enhance learning conditions and overall school operations. The work was completed in December 2022, and the upgraded facilities were officially commissioned for use.
Completed Sub-Projects

a) Classroom Renovation and Construction:
Completion and furnishing of two previously unfinished classrooms with new desks and chairs.
Construction of four additional new classrooms, fully equipped with necessary learning materials.

b) Sanitation and Hygiene Facilities:
Construction of a modern restroom block for both boys and girls.
The restroom facilities included washrooms with ceramic bowls, modern urinals, sinks, tiled floors, and shower areas.
Running water was installed to promote hygiene and sanitation.

c) Water Supply System:
A new well was dug to provide a reliable source of clean drinking and washing water.
A submersible pump was installed for efficient water extraction and distribution.
d) Administration Block:
A new administration block was constructed to provide a proper working environment for the school’s management and staff.

Project Impact The completion of these projects has significantly improved the learning and working environment at Thiru Primary School. Key benefits include:
Reduced classroom congestion, creating a more conducive atmosphere for learning.
Improved sanitation and hygiene, reducing health risks among students.
Access to clean water, improving overall school hygiene and hydration.
Enhanced administrative operations due to a modern and functional office block.
Better learning conditions for kindergarten pupils with dedicated classrooms.
